The Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA) will be one of the international participants represented by a trade delegation of 16 operators, at the 24th edition of India International Jewellery Show 2007 (IIJS) scheduled between 30 August to 3 September, 2007.
Thailand's exports of precious stones other than diamonds, to India's US$23.53 billion gems and jewellery market, have been on the rise. It has increased from $25.82 million in 2005 to $26.15 million in 2006. In the first four months of this year, the exports were worth $12.9 million, compared to $8.95 million in the same period last year.

The Thai Pavilion at the IIJS will comprise of 24 booths in Hall 5-6 and will be occupied by participants like Diamrusa, Pranda Jewelry and IGS. As part of its promotional activities, the contingent will host the "Thai Night Party," on August 30, for VIP guests. Here it would showcase 36 sets of exquisite and trendy jewellery, through a live ramp show. This would be the first gala organised by TGJTA to the IIJS. The jewellery industry of Thailand and India are hopeful that the India-Thailand Free Trade Agreement would include gems and jewellery.
Thailand, renowned as the gemstone capital of the world, has been continuing exports of its coloured stones into India since the past few years. With being a part of the IIJS 2007, The TGJTA seeks opportunities in the rising demand for gemstone-studded jewellery in India. Although India has a serious indulgence in gold, the diamond and gemstone market is expanding due to consumers’ awareness of international styles and fashion trends.
