The show is organsied by the Department of Export Promotion and the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA) with an intent to hype the interest in international jewellery trade, in the background of the economic slump. The show promises a mix of entertainment and information to interact with. Seminars are lined up for discussions on the topical issues of gems and jewellery, along with other events.
One country keen to boost its trade at the BGJF is Thailand; who will use this to consolidate its status as the world's capital of colored gemstones. A Grand Celebration will showcase jewellery in a fashion show carrying the theme of "Memory of Siam" to reflect Thailand's rich cultural heritage and long association with the colored gemstones. Incredible Thai Jewel will be a Unique Tribute to The King to mark his 80th birthday on December 5 2007, with over 8,000 carats of yellow sapphire set in a sparking golden rabbit sitting on a base of jade and its eyes created out of 81-baguette-cut rubies. Another highlight would be the HOT 2008 Vol.1 displaying over 150 master pieces designed by leading jewellery houses in Thailand.

The next show of BGJF, the 41st, is scheduled on February 27-March 2, 2008, at Challenger, Impact Exhibition & Convention Center.

The Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (BGJF), the world’s fifth largest trade event, opened its 40th show yesterday. Slated between 18-22nd September, the five days mean business with 1,500 exhibiting companies over 100,000 sqm of area. Business transactions with 35,000 trade delegates and visitors from 80 nations, are expected to generate more than 10 billion baht (US$294 million).
