A theft took place at Aviraj Diamonds and Gems, Surat, where three guards robbed the company off Rs. 20 million ($492,000) in diamonds and cash. According to police investigations, the guards had drugged eight other fellow guards with candy before breaking into the polishing plant on Friday evening.
The owners discovered the robbery the following morning as they confronted the open safe, and missing assets of diamonds and Rs. 700,000 ($17,211) in cash. The local police state that the accused were employed since three years and were well prepared with instruments to break in, making it possible to term them as career criminals.
