West Bengal to Follow Gujarat in becoming a Jewellery Hub

Jewellery parks to be set up in Bengal and sops given to draw in more customers.

A 2.5 lakh jewellery park will be developed at Ankurhati in Howrah and a part of this will be sold to manufacturers at an affordable price. Another park will be developed in Bon Hooghly in North Kolkata. This park will be built on six acres and will have state of the art amenities including training programme for jewellery manufacturing.

GJEPC is in the process of building a skill development centre in Manikanchan in Salt Lake. There is a plan to free exporters from GST while procuring gold and silver against bank guarantee.

Kolkata has a turnover of Rs 38,000 cr, a contributor of almost 11% of India’s total turnover. The industry is all geared to take this up to 20% in 2020. There are talks happening to brand the exclusive Kolkata craftsmanship as Kalkatti.
