Domestic council for G&J to be inaugurated on the 29th of January
The Council will be inaugurated by the Honourable Union Minister Suresh Prabhu
The formation of a Gem & Jewellery Domestic Council which was underway for the last year has finally materialized. The Council will be inaugurated on the 29th of January by Hon'ble Union Minister Suresh Prabhu. Pramod Agrawal, Chairman, GJEPC, will also be the Convenor of the Domestic Council.
A significant meeting under the auspices of the Union Ministry for Commerce & Industry and the chairmanship of Alok Vardhan Chaturvedi (DG Foreign Trade) held in Udyog Bhavan, for the formation of the Domestic Council for Gems & Jewellery will be announced end of January 2019 was held earlier last week.
The GJC will play an important role in the Drafting Committee, which will oversee the drafting of the constitutional documents as well as the Election Rules of the Domestic Council. “The Domestic Council has to take up multiple challenges faced by jewellers such as the creation of national Gold policy, high gold import duty, gold monetization scheme, mandatory gold hallmarking without requisite infrastructure, GST related problems and harassment of jewellers by Government officials,” said Anantha Padmanabhan, Chairman, GJC.
