The fifth annual meeting of World Diamond Council (WDC) proved a boon in terms of keeping a check on issues of conflict diamonds and human rights in African mining countries.%% Reason being that the industry leaders who gathered at the WDC meeting in Jerusalem, collectively decided to handle the issues of human rights in african mining countries with utmost efforts.%%Incidently, De Beers Managing Director Gareth Penny and Alrosa president Sergey Vibornov remarked that the industry is actually consumer driven and strong ethical practices must be followed in order to maintain trust in the customers.%%According to reports, WDC chairman Izhakoff opined that WDC believes strongly that a workable and effective Kimberley Process is absolutely essential if this industry has to be protected against criminal activities.%%Also, concern was shown for problematic areas like Zimbabwe and Venezuela.
