The ICA Congress 2007 started on May 5, 2007 in Dubai. First two days of the conference were occupied with golf tournaments, registration, poster and auction viewing. The underlying theme of the congress that is going to end on May 9, 2007 is embracing global trends from mine to market. Though the congress started on May 5, the discussions & speeches started on May 7. %%The opening session was graced by the welcome speeches of Ahmed Bin Sulayem COO, DMCC & her Excellency Sheikha Lubna al Qasimi, Minister of Economy, U.A.E. %%Gaiti Rabbani (Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, DMCC), Tawfic Farah ( Executive Director- Diamonds & colored stones , DMCC), Chandu Siroya ( Vice Chairman, Dubai Diamond Exchange), Peter Meeus (Advisor-Diamonds, DMCC) and Amit Dhamani were amongst the esteemed members of the industry who made presentations on various subjects related to Colour gemstones industry.%%Interestingly, the congress this year has registered highest number of delegates. The participation is applaudable with people from every part of the world. The venue of the congress-Dubai is brimming with opportunities for those who want to expand there business in the Gulf. The tax free regime & modern infrastructure make the city an attractive venture; several speakers during the day highlighted these factors.%%Dubai has been virtually known for gold, gradually diamonds have also picked up$$ & now Dubai is being viewed as an important destination for colored stones. While addressing the gathering Chandraprakash Siroya said, “With the right focus and active support of the government we can expect Dubai to become the largest colorstone market place in the world in the next 10 years.” Referring to high margins in the colorstone trade Amit Dhamani quoted, “color stone is the bright sunny side of the precious industry,”%%The ICA which still has 2 more days to go will reflect on an array of topics pertaining to the global color stone trade.
