At the Antwerp World Diamond Conference, Yu Huimin, secretary general of China's Diamond Administration China said that the country was going to increase its diamond imports by 60% as compared to last year’s imports. China imported diamonds worth $900 million in 2007, and will increase this by two times within three to fiver years. Imports of polished stones have already scaled up by 180% to $200 million, during the first half of 2007, as compared to last year.%%He mentioned that China is currently witnessing an increase in demand of luxury products. He estimated China’s jewellery market would be worth $2.5 billion by 2010, while trade would ncrease to $1.2 billion - $1.3 billion, by next year. Drawing a comparison with prominent outsourcing countries, Yu said China was a good option as labour cost was one tenth that in the European markets and China had fewer strikes compared to India.
