ICA to launch First International Gem Cutting & Jewellery Design Competition

There is tremendous growth for colour in rising consumer markets like China and the timing is believed to be ripe to promote a global competition that would encourage greater use of gemstones.

The {{35th Bangkok Gems & Jewellery Fair}}, a exciting six-day event got off with much fanfare as Thailand's Minister of Commerce, {{Watana Muangsook}} officiated at the Opening Ceremony. Thousands of exhibitors, local and international visitors, high - ranking Government officials etc. were present in the ballroom during the glittering inaugural ceremony. Nearly 30,000 visitors from all parts of the globe attended the Show during six days run- February 22 to 27, 2005. About 2,900 well-decorated booths were housed in the 60,000 sq.m. exhibition hall at Impact Exhibition and Convention Centre, where exhibitors from over 30 countries proudly displayed their choicest gems and jewellery creations. %% The visitors as well as buyers seemed quite impressed with the convenience, safety, facilities and the right ambience provided by the Show organizers - {{Thai Gems & Jewellery Traders Association (TGJTA)}}. Nevertheless, due to extension of the exhibition days from 4 to 6; the excitement of the Show was in low key during its initial couple of days. %% {{Jayesh Vaghasia}}, MD of {{Crazy Colours Diamond}}, a firm specializing in 'HPHT' Fancy Colored Diamonds' as well as fancy cuts, was exhibiting for the first time in the Bangkok Fair. He seemed quite content with the sales results. Similarly {{Rohit Dhamani}} of {{Dhamani Jewels}}, a regular exhibitor for the past seven years said that with its fresh look, the Bangkok Show is now comparable with other prominent shows worldwide. Visitors were delighted to witness glittering gemstones in the stage performances highlighting Thailand 'The Land of Gems & Jewellery'. %% The {{36th Bangkok Gems & Jewellery Fair}} will be organized from {{September 14 to 19, 2005}}.
