One of the stamps from five, which are part of the “Antverpia 2010” stamp collection issued by the Belgian Postal Service, displays a diamond jewellery piece that was a finalist in the HRD Awards 2007 design competition. The collection has been launched to promote the European Philatelic Championship slated for 2010 in Antwerp. Each stamp narrates an aspect of life in the Flemish city. %% The diamond jewellery compliments the diamond trade in the city, which handles 80 percent of the rough diamonds traded worldwide and 50 percent of the polished diamonds. Designer Reena Ahluwalia, designed her piece interpreting the theme of the HRD Awards 2007 -‘A Night at the Opera’. It paid homage to the legendary diva, Maria Callas, with diamonds contributed by Antwerp-based Diarough. %% The competition is organised by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), and it has invited participation for the forthcoming HRD Awards 2009, at the Baselworld show in Switzerland. The theme for the new competition is “Once upon a time…my favourite fairy tale.” The winning design will be rewarded with € 5,000.
