Christie’s published the results of its New York Jewelry Sale, and accordingly it sold 293 lots or 88% of the 332 lots put on offer. In value terms the lots sold amounted to €31,572,705. Rahul Kadakia, Head of Jewelry, Christie’s Americas commented, “While the Rare Jewels and Gemstones auction could not take place, the New York Jewelry Sale realised an outstanding $50m, making it the most valuable jewellery auction ever held in the U.S. Ten jewels sold over $1m and diamonds stole the show all across the board, with a sensational $175,000 per carat paid for a 39ct perfect gem. Bidding was robust throughout the day, underscoring the continued strength of the jewelry market and the global appetite for important stones.” %% The remarkable 39ct perfect gem was a cushion-cut D color, IF Type IIa diamond which sold for $6,873,000. The other nine outstanding diamonds and diamond jewellery sold included; A 27.91cts Harry Winston rectangular-cut D colour, potentially flawless diamond sold for $4,073,000, a 21.90cts Harry Winston pear-shaped D colour potentially flawless diamond ring sold for $3,065,000, a 18.44ct rectangular-cut D colour, potentially flawless diamond sold for $2,561,000, a 16.89cts Carvin French rectangular-cut D colour IF diamond ring/pendant sold for $2,393,000, a 20.10cts rectangular-cut F colour, potentially flawless diamond sold for $1,497,000, a pair of pear- shaped D colour, Type IIa diamond ear pendants of 4.56 and 5.06cts sold for $1,441,000, a pair of fancy yellow diamond ear clips of 29.07 and 28.19cts sold for $1,071,400, a 40.39ct Bulgari rectangular-cut fancy intense yellow diamond ring sold for $1,037,800 and lastly a 22.27ct Harry Winston Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring sold for $1,026,600. %% The buyers were a mix of American, European and a few Middle Eastern buyers. The next sale is scheduled in Dubai on 29 April 2008.
