The AWDC (Antwerp World Diamond Centre) has announced hosting its international diamond jewellery design competition, for the 13th consecutive time, this year. The platform invites global jewellery designers to create their renditions upon a theme decided by the organisers. This year, the theme is a fantasy based one “Once upon a time… my favourite fairy tale”. %% Designers will create upon their deigns from elements of the world of fantasy and legend, featuring characters of fairies, goblins, elves, trolls, witches and more. Certain norms have been outlined, like entries must be original designs which have never been displayed or commercialised. Also, the diamond involvement must be at least 1ct and maximum 25ct. %% The winner receiving a prize of € 5000 and his/her collection and the AWDC will buy the winning item. The collection will be exhibited and promoted during 2009- 2010 in Belgium and abroad, with an opening exhibition to take place on June 18, 2009. In July and August of 2009, AWDC will give it on loan to the Diamond Museum Province of Antwerp for permanent display, after which, the collection will feature at international jewellery fairs, museums and in jewellery galleries. %% The entries will be judged by an international jury*. Also, while contestants are invited to submit as many designs as they want, only those selected as laureates by the jury will be required to create and send actual diamond jewellery pieces for the competition. All applicants must submit an application form before October 31, 2008. The HRD Awards is widely recognised as the world’s leading design contest in creative and innovative diamond jewellery.
