The AGS Laboratories recently distributed a podcast entitled “The Real Ideal” in which the speaker John Pollard from Infinity Diamonds, explains the common mis-representation and misleading association of the term ideal when used in diamonds. He clarifies that the term, while used in diamond grading and printed in diamond grading reports, is today also referred to in a generic manner, creating confusion in purchase especially for first time buyers doing their primary diamond-buying research online. %% “Unfortunately, the bulk of the confusion comes from diamond sellers who use the word “ideal” but leave the AGS Laboratories standards behind,” said Pollard. “The word “ideal” grew so popular that sellers began using it to sell their diamonds. The problem was, while they used the word “ideal” they didn’t adopt the AGS standards. Over time this spread and the Internet has only added to the confusion.” %% Introduced by the AGS Laboratories over ten years ago, the term “ideal” refers to the highest possible grade the Laboratory assigns to a diamond’s cut. Making this clearer for consumers, the podcast delivers a detailed definition of the term “ideal” and simple actionable tips for them to identify a “real ideal” cut diamond. It has received attention the jewellery industry. The consumer mass media have given it great mileage which would support the need to make this basic knowledge more popular. Nearly 500 comments are posted at the industry forum, pricescope.com and with supporting features on websites of Los Angeles Times, the Houston Chronicle, and The Dallas Morning News to name a few. The podcast can also be downloaded at agslab.com and on iTunes. %% “Today, the only way to ensure you have a “real ideal” cut diamond is to make sure the diamond is accompanied by an AGS Laboratories grading report,” said Frank Dallahan, President and CEO of the AGS Laboratories. “Our laboratory introduced the Ideal Cut Diamond and we’re the only diamond-grading laboratory with an objective and scientifically vetted method of evaluating a diamond’s cut.”
