On the occasion of the state visit to India of His Majesty King Albert II of Belgium, a press conference was held on November 7, '08 at a prominent city hotel in south Mumbai. The Press conference was addressed by Belgium's Foreign Affairs Minister, Karel De Gucht, Thomas Leysen, chairman of the Federation of Enterprises, Belgium, Andre Bergen of Belgium's bank KBC and distinguished Indian diamantaire Baron Dilip Mehta, Chief Executive Officer, Rosyblue. %% Both De Gucht and Leysen spoke expansively of the deepening trade relations between India and Belgium and elaborated extensively on the vast infrastructure of their country. While these officials emphasised the immense scope for economic cooperation between India and Belgium in the spheres of biopharma, infrastructure, eco-technology and banking services, Baron Dilip Mehta lauded Belgium's business-friendly environment. %% Mehta has lived for 35 years in Antwerp, Belgium and the $2 billion business of his company, Rosyblue, is located in 14 countries across the globe. Weighing his words carefully, Mehta admitted that "in the current global recession large diamonds will be impacted, but good quality diamonds will still have a good market." He agreed that in the current economic downturn the US retail market has been very badly affected and advised the Indian jewelry market to adjust to the global crisis, as such crises are inevitable in a globalised world. He concluded decisively that "India is not as badly affected as the rest of the world and there will be decent double digit growth in the Indian market."
