Rough diamond exports out of Australia have fallen by 40 percent to $110 million dollars for the period of three months ending September 30, 2008. Media reports suggest that as per the Kimberly Process statistics, Australia was the seventh largest producer of rough diamonds in 2007, with a mining record of 18.538 million carats of diamonds valued at $364.63 million. %% In the three months ending September 30, 2008, the country exported its entire production of the said quarter, which amounted to 4.839 million carats. The production dipped by 3 percent but increased by 55 percent over the quarter ending June 30. %% Export of gems seemed to be bleak in the said quarter. Besides diamonds, other gem exports fell by 23 percent over the said quarter in 2007, amounting to $10 million this year. %% On the contrary, exports of refined gold exports increased by 39 percent to $3.789 billion, and of copper by 17 percent to $1.934 billion.
