Exports of polished diamonds from Israel dropped by 28 percent in April 2009 and amounted to $269.1 million. The exports of rough diamonds in April slipped down by 59 percent to $108.3 million. The total diamond exports including that of rough and polished diamonds combined, decreased by 41 percent to $377.4 million, while the total imports of diamonds including rough and polished diamonds dropped by 62 percent to $302.3 million. The country’s April net diamond account ( measured by the amount by which total diamond exports exceed imports), amounted to $75.1 million, while in the same month in 2008 it showed a deficit of $146.5 million.
