Christie’s Jewels: The Geneva Sales which took place on November 18, 2009, achieved sales worth $32,281,500. It was 82 percent sold by lot, reports say. The outcome of the sale indicated a return of consumer enthusiasm and market recovery, reports say. The highlight of the sale was a 62.30 ct pear-shaped D Flawless diamond (Type IIa) $130,000 per ct, bought for $ 8,051,000 by Aleks Paul Essex Global Trading NY. Jean-Marc Lunel, Head of the Sale: at Christie’s said, “With $70 million of jewellery changing hands in two days at the Geneva auctions, the star lot of the week at Christie’s was an exceptional D Flawless diamond of 62.30 cts purchased by Aleks Paul of Essex Global Trading for $ 8,051,000. This shows the clear resurgence of the jewellery market and we look forward to exciting sales in Hong Kong, New York and London in early December.” %% Breaking another record at the action was a 19.13 ct briolette-cut fancy grayish yellowish green “Chameleon” diamond pendant necklace, which sold for $987,000, setting a record price for a chameleon at auction. %% The top three lots included - the 62.30 ct pear-shaped D Flawless diamond, a3.30-carat, rectangular-cut, fancy intense blue and a 3.90-carat, E, VS2 diamond ring created by Wolfers and bought for $2,675,000 and the third being a fancy vivid, fancy intense and fancy blue diamond clasp bought for $2,675,000. All the three lots were bought at prices above their presale estimates. %% Some other prominent lots that were sold include a 24.92-carat, pear-shaped, light blue, type IIb, VVS2 diamond ring, mounted by Cartier. It was bought for $1,555,000. A 13.91 ct oval-shaped D, VVS2 diamond ring sold for $1,203,000. A 7.03 ct oval-shaped Burmese ruby and diamond ring, crafted by Graff sold for $1,131,000, which was a little over its presale estimate. A 65.20 ct cushion-shaped fancy intense yellow, VS2 diamond pendant sold for $1,035,000.A 4.42 ct square-cut fancy intense green, VS2 diamond ring selling for $ 783,000 and a 21.54 ct rectangular-cut fancy vivid yellow, VS1 diamond ring bought for $ 675,000.
