IJ Jewellers Choice Design Awards - The Grand Jury Meet

The jury judged over 90 pieces that were shortlisted by the retailers across the nation.

Inspiration 2009, an event organised by the Jasani Department of Jewellery Design and Manufacture (a part of SNDT Women’s University) to felicitate its students was held at Hotel Sea Princess on December 16th 2009. Columnist, writer and TV presenter Dr. Roopa Patel, textile designer Bhamini Subramaniyam, senior creative designer of Ganjam Arunima Bhaumik and jewellery designer Amisha Khanna were the judges. %% Models walked the ramp sashaying the well-researched theme based designs by the students from the institute. The themes varied from secrets, espionage, graffiti, and witchcraft to Michael Jackson king of pop, Indian railways and hardship possesses positivity. The student achiever award was given to Varshita Patil for bagging the second prize in Solitaire Award Jewellery Design competition at the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) 2009. This year along with its usual awards, the department has added two more awards to recognise the talent of two young individual designers for their one best designed and manufactured piece from their final project and state project. Prajakta More won the best designed and manufactured piece individual –final project on researched theme “The Devil’s Bible – Codex Gigas” , and Safina Afsar won the best designed and manufactured piece individual – state project for the researched theme of the state of Maharashtra. Aditi Malpani bagged the best overall collection of the year award for her The Illuminati Illuminated collection based on the illuminati from Dan Brown’s novel Angels and Demons. Selestina D’Mello, whose designs were based on the Indian Railways, won the best student of the year award. %% The show is a platform for young budding designers from SNDT to present their talent to the gem and jewellery industry. An exhibition displaying all the collections will be held on 17th and 18th December 2009 at the Hotel The Emerald in Mumbai.
