Meena Jewellers' opens first jewellery outlet in Dubai

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is inviting gemologists, other scientists, gem and jewellery professionals, to submit abstracts and participate at its Symposium 2011: Advancing the Science and Business of Gems, slated from May 29-30, 2011 at its world headquarters in Carlsbad. This event will also commemorate the 80th anniversary of GIA, and celebrate its history and future. %% Symposium 2011 has been conceptualised with two tracks. Advances in Gemological Research will include sessions on gem localities and formation; diamond, colored stone and pearl identification; and new technology and instrumentation. Advancing the Gem Industry will focus on marketing to the customer of the 21st century; political, ethical and legal issues; gem evaluation and appraisal; and jewelry history, design and manufacturing. %% Both tracks will have invited keynote lectures. The Research track will also feature submitted oral and poster presentations; the Industry track will supplement the keynote lectures with invited panel discussions and submitted poster presentations. %% All abstracts are required to be submitted online. GIA has slated deadline for all submissions as January 10, 2011. Abstracts for all presentations given at the conference will be published in a “Proceedings” volume of GIA’s quarterly professional journal, Gems & Gemology. %% There are some optional pre-conference activities lined up including visit to San Diego County’s gem deposits in Pala pegmatite district, hands-on workshops, visit to the ‘All that Glitters’ gem and jewelry exhibit at the San Diego Museum of Natural History.
