The 2010 September Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Show has finally concluded at its two venues - Asia World Expo(AWE ) and Hong Kong Convention Exhibition Centre(HKCEC). It has ended with a slight disappointment from the high expectations built up in the initial days of the show. %% The {{Asia World Expo(AWE)}} the exhibition hub for rough and loose gemstones, pearls and other jewellery materials and technology, had exhibitors participating with high hopes pinned, as the preceding showings in March and June concluded with good results. September is considered the biggest of the trade fairs, but this year’s results dampened much of the anticipation. Buyers turned out in fewer numbers than last year. There were fewer Chinese buyers, as compared to last year, which could probably be attributed to the Shenzhen show taking place simultaneously. The issue of customs for few buyers of goods shipping back to China, may have been the other deterring factor. One of the exhibitor stated, that buying in the Chinese market has not touched its potential and demand would pick pace in a month or two. %% Local exhibiting companies who are regular participants at the show, witnessed good response from regular local buyers. It was easy to provide local buyers with service. The international exhibitor suffered in this context. Indian buyers dominated the show, and reflected memories of an ‘IIJS show’. %% Diamond prices were strong, which disappointed the non-serious buyers, but comes as a positive sign as the trade season is approaching. Columbian and Zambian Emerald showed moderate response, tanzanite prices were stable inspite ban on rough exports above 1 Gram. %% {{Hong Kong Convention Exhibition Centre(CEC):}} The onset of the show at the HKCEC witnessed low attendance, which although comparatively picked pace over the days, but not as expected. Innovations and new collection launches attracted buyer response. Exhibitors with regular exhibits of finished jewellery failed to gather much attention. Hong Kong and Bangkok participating companies presented a wide range of good quality and design. The India Pavillion, tagged as ‘Pavilion of the Year’ showcased silver, gemstone and kundan meena jewellery.
