Gem and jewellery education in Jaipur- India’s gemstone capital received a boost with the completion of a collaboration between Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in India and Indian Institute of Gems and Jewellery (IIGJ). The collaboration was born from an initiative by the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), and announced at IIGJ’s recent inauguration of its campus in Sitapura, Jaipur, under the leadership of Hon. Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Mr. Ashok Gehlot. %% “Our mission at GIA India has been to bring relevant and up-to-date gemmological education to trade centres across the country,” said Nirupa Bhatt, managing director, GIA India & Middle East. “Given the strategic role of Jaipur in the coloured stone market, we are happy to be able to work with IIGJ to achieve this mission.” %% Initially, Diamond Grading Lab and Accredited Jewelry Professional courses will be conducted at the IIGJ campus and will be conducted beginning January 2011 by GIA instructors. The curricula will cover a wide range of topics, from basic diamond, gemstone and pearl knowledge, to advanced techniques for grading and identifying different types of gemstones and pearls as well as detecting treatments. %% The GIA and IIGJ plan to further enhance the frequency and deliverables of the courses, as per demand in the industry.
