Sparkle 2011, which was inaugurated today at the Surat international exhibition and convention centre, lent a good beginning into the new year for the Indian gem and jewellery industry. The event was inaugurated at the hand of Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat - Shri Narendra Modi , who spoke of positive steps for the industry’s growth, at the inauguration. %% Exemplifying the power industry which has a control over coal mines in the world, he mentioned that, “ the diamond industry should focus on capturing the mines in world”. He expressed his support “at all levels for this with the Central government” and said he “appreciates efforts with Zimbabwe”. %% Mr. Modi expressed faith in the abilities of the state of Gujarat, and the position held by Surat in the global diamond industry. He was ambitious that, “If people of Gujarat take a decision we will start our own airline”. “I request the Central government not to be biased with Surat and an economy like Surat does not have proper flight connections”, he added. %% Sparkle 2011 is hosting 133 stalls which include both B2B and B2C stalls. The exhibitors expect a large crowd from the local areas of Surat and nearby cities in Gujarat. A separate dome has been created for promoting tourism in Surat. %% The event is being organised in association with the Gujarat government. Mr., Ajoy Bhatacharya ,chairman of South Chamber of Commerce and Industry and organizer of the show, presented the opening speech. Shri Mangu Bhai Patel, Gujarat’s Tourism Minister and was also present at the inaugural function. %% At the event Mr. Modi mentioned that Gujarat would host a summit between January 12-13, 2011, with a participation of 18 states and Canada is a partner country ( with which discussions centering around rough supplies would take place) . “I will request our diamond community to talk to the members of the delegation and do business with them”, Mr. Modi added.
