FORMER Diamond Manufacturers and Importers Association (DMIA) president Alan F. Kleinberg, who served the role from 1994 to 1998, will be the recipient of the 2006 Humanitarian Award for Distinguished Service in the field of human relations by the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ.)%%The two most important qualifiers for the award were that the candidate must be "a leader in the industry and (must be) someone who has done good work in the community according to NCCJ event coordinator Debbie Beaudreau. The NCCJ awards leaders from the jewelry and watch industry each year, in addition to other industries, but Kleinberg is the first diamantaire to be awarded the honor.%%Kleinberg will be given his award December 4, 2006, during the NCCJs annual dinner to be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Pierre Hotel in New York City.
