%% The global gems and jewellery trade has strongly condemned the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai that occurred on 13th July 2011. Organisations including the AWDC, WFDB and the DDC have also expressed their sincere condolences for the victims and their families. %% Avi Paz sent condolences on behalf of the WFDB to Anoop Mehta, President of the Bharat Diamond Bourse in Mumbai, India. "We were shocked to hear about the terrorist bombing attacks that hit Mumbai yesterday that claimed the lives of so many innocent people, some of them members of the diamond business community in Mumbai. On behalf of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses and its affiliated member bourses, I extend our organization's sincere condolences to the families of the victims and send our best wishes for speedy recovery to the wounded," Paz wrote. %% The WFDB president suggested to Mehta not hesitate to ask the WFDB for any assistance it could offer "As you know, the international diamond business community is always ready to offer assistance in times of difficulty and this may be such a moment." %% AWDC President Nishit Parikh said: "Our thoughts go out to the families of those killed and injured in this terrible attack. We hope the injured make a speedy recovery.” As a multicultural centre with a large Indian community, Antwerp sympathizes heavily with the victims and strongly condemns this act of violence, killing 17 and injuring 131 innocent people. %% Moshe Mosbacher, President of the Diamond Dealers Club, reacted with horror at the news of today's coordinated terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, during which bombs exploded in the city's diamond district and downtown area. %% "Words cannot properly express our shock and dismay over these cruel and senseless attacks, whose sole aim is wreak havoc and cause suffering in a city that is so important, first and foremost because it is home to so many friends and family. Our hearts go out to the all the victims, the injured and their families," Mr. Mosbacher said. %% "The goal of terrorists is to disrupt our regular existence, and we can best combat them by refusing to do that. On behalf of the New York trade, I pledge to our colleagues in India that we will do all that we can to ensure that life will continue as before, and the ties and relationships that connect us will be strengthened. We stand alongside them and the people of India during this difficult time," Mr. Mosbacher said. %% In the meantime, Mr. Rohit Mehta, President of the Surat Diamond Association and the South Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the industry should not panic and maintain normalcy. "It is important to have faith in the police and security agencies. It is the intention of terrorists to destabilise the country and the trade and we must not let them be successful. The Association intends to meet with the Commissioner of Police and demand more security for the industry." Mr. Mehta said.
