Canadian auction house Western Star Auctions failed to sell an emerald of 57,500 carats, which is believed to be the world’s largest emerald. The reserve price of the stone was set at $500,000. Doubts were circulating about the stone’s authenticity even amongst gemmologists and gemmological bodies including GIA's West Coast Identification Service. %% Prior to the auction, there had been news that the dealer who submitted the stone for auction, Regan Reaney, was arrested on multiple fraud charges and has outstanding warrants for his arrest out of Hamilton, Ontario," reports add.%% The stone is reportedly in a safe location with the auction house, reports suggest.%%
