The gem and jewellery industry across the nation heaves a sigh of relief as Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee agrees to withdraw the excise duty of 1 % on both branded and unbranded jewellery recently proposed in the 2012-2013 Budget. %% The Finance Ministry had levied an excise duty of one per cent on branded precious metal jewellery in the Budget this year. In the Union Budget 2012-13, the Finance Ministry included unbranded jewellery under the excise duty structure.
