I congratulate all the organizers and local people for taking this step towards encouraging and motivating the workforce of the gem & jewellery industry.”%% As the knowledge partner, GJEPC will support the Jewellery Skill Center in: organizing faculty, course material etc in regional language; installation and running the center with appropriate equipments, tools, consumables etc; mobilize trainees in and around Karaikudi for the training and play the role of a moderator between the skill center, IL&FS and GJSCI as knowledge and certification partner. Initially, it had been proposed to conduct the “metal setter (basic)” course according to the NOS created for 25 days (5 hours a day) for the already skilled labor force in Karaikudi who were keen to learn the “open setting” to improve their skill set. However, based on the request of GJSCI, GJEPC organized the work benches from Goldsmith Academy, Madurai to transport, fix and run the class on the inaugural day for 12 trainees who were goldsmiths and wished to upgrade their skill set mainly in “open setting”.%% The Honorable Finance Minister praised the project and interacted with all the goldsmiths encouraging them to complete the course and do better in life. He also stayed long to see for himself how the stone is being set which showed his interest for the industry in this region; especially Karaikudi and Sivagangai region. The local jewellery trade also expressed their optimism and excitement towards the project and has assured their support in the successful running of the skill center and with the excellent response that the programme has received, GJEPC plans to roll out similar such initiatives across various centres in the southern region.
