Jaipur jewellery show 2006 formally commenced with the lamp lightning ceremony on December 22, 2006. The function was presided by the chief guest Donna Baker, president of GIA and guest of honour Sanjay Kothari, chairman of GJEPC. The much awaited coffee table book on emeralds was also released on the same dais. All the people associated with JJS were felicitated during the ceremony. Rashmikant Durlabhji, the convener of the show got a standing ovation by the present gathering for his leadership and guidance to the show and the trade overall.
Rashmikant Durlabhji during his address urged the president of GIA to open a branch in India too. He further talking about the book on emeralds said, “We have put in immense effort and passion in writing this book,”. The editorial team of the book which consisted of Yogendra Durlabhji, Ruchi Durlabhji and Shyamla Fernandes under the leadership of Rashmikant Durlabhji were felicitated. Commenting on the excellence of the book Donna baker said, “The book is not just a book for the show, it has captured the history, beauty and romance of emeralds. It will be an excellent tour of emeralds for the buyers.” Five copies of the book will be kept with the library of GIA. She also applauded the hospitality of the pink city saying, “Your hospitality is second to none. I look forward to many more trips to Jaipur.”%%Informing about the future plans of GIA she said, “GIA is studying the Indian precious industry very closely and we have it in mind to support the Indian industry through various services of GIA. While visiting Jaipur jewellery industry I realised its importance in the global gem and jewellery scene. I will talk to our board to make efforts to highlight Jaipur jewellery trade and the city’s historical jewellery collections.”%%Alok Kala, editor of Journal of Gem and Jewellery Industry and Diamond World was one of the esteemed contributors to be presented with a token of appreciation.
