According to the Antwerp World Diamond Center (AWDC) report, Antwerp faired well with a decent rise in exports and imports during August. The rough exports (value based) was higher by 143.9% amounting to $806.1 million, in comparison to August 2006. The volume of rough exports was higher by 186.7 %, valuing at 10.1 million carats. Imports of roughs also scaled up by 41.2% to $860.2 million, and in carats it moved 9% higher to 11 million carats.
Also, exports of polished stones recorded a 64.5% increase in value to $480.7 million, and in volume it increased by 26.1% to 404,976 carats. Imports of polished diamonds also followed the increase by 22.6% to $708.3 million, and in carats by 18.4% to 797,653.
Citing the performance for the first eight months of 2007, from January - August, rough exports also rose 25.9% in value and 20.1% by volume. The rough imports increased by 13.6% in value and 3.7% in carats. Polished exports increased by 13.1% in value and by 11.3% in carats. Polished imports scaled up by 9% in value and 5.4% in volume.
