The International Institute of Gemology (IIG) hosted international jewellery expert and connoisseur Tatyana Pfaifer who delivered a seminar ‘Secrets of the Jewellery World’ on 30th August at their Panchratna campus in Mumbai.

During the seminar, Ms Pfaifer spoke about international trends in the jewellery industry. Tatyana is a regular visitor to several prestigious jewellery exhibitions across the globe, including Jewellery Arabia in Bahrain, Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, The Couture Show Las Vegas, Top Marques Monaco and Baselworld.

She shared information about the types of jewellery showcased at these exhibitions and also spoke about the trends. Further she gave valuable information on ‘Collectible Jewellery’ and shared her expertise on what makes Collectible Jewellery.

She shared information on works of some of the world-renowned jewellery designers like JAR, Wallace Chan, Viren Bhagat and Anna Hu.

She also shared her experience in India and spoke extensively about how Indian handcrafted jewellery fascinates her. She had a word of advice for the budding Indian jewellery designers who want to make a mark in the international jewellery world. She said, “Keep your Indian factor in jewellery intact. There is a demand for Indian handcrafted antique jewellery.”

According to her one of the biggest strengths of the Indian jewellery industry is people’s unwavering affinity towards gold unlike Europe. She said, ‘Though Indian jewellers are so good in design, I think they have this fear to explore. I would say they need to travel the world, understand different markets.’
