According to the AWDC Diamond Office, Belgium has fared extremely well in its diamond trade for the year 2007. The exports of polished diamonds increased by 7.20% to 9.36 million carats in volume and by 13.01% in volume to amount to $10.7 billion. Decemeber 2007 was exceptionally good, and contributed to 719,773.79 carats to the total volume (an increase by 11.20%) and $886.4 million to the total year’s export value (an incraese by 15.51%). Polished imports in the year jumped by 4.96% to 9.74 million carats, and by 11.06% to amount to $9.99 billion. The Decemeber figures were strong contrinuting 616,955.82 carats, and $718.6 million in volume.%%Rough exports of 2007 amounted to 142.9 million carats, an increase by 5.17%. In value they increased by 15.28% to $11.4 billion. December figures contributed 13.14 million carats and $1.07 billion to the total volume.%%Rough imports however fell down by 1.71% in volume to 133.6 million carats, in which the imports in December fell by 2.26%. The annual imports scaled up in value by 10.52% to $10.2 billion, while December contributed $803.5 million to this.
