Rio Tinto Diamonds’ 23rd annual argyle pink diamond tender concluded with all 65 diamonds being sold to 17 bidders across the globe. The auction held in Perth, Hong Kong and New York, ran all through last month, and the bid price reached exorbitant rates.%%According to Rio Tinto’s general manager for sales and marketing, Jean-Marc Lieberherr, “This year, the diamonds received an unprecedented level of interest and competition was fierce. But, as only a handful of such high quality diamonds are produced each year they are also a smart investment choice, guaranteed to grow in value.”%%The value of the bids and the names of the bidders have been kept discreet in order to protect successful bidders’ confidentiality.” Pink diamonds are known to command prices exceeding $400,000 per carat, according to the company.
