KP Chair issues notice on developments on Marange diamonds

Participants asked to refrain trading in Marange diamonds until agreement comes through

The recently held Madison Dialogue Ethical Jewelry Summit at the World Bank in Washington concluded with a declaration to encourage standards, which would help produce jewellery labeled as "ethical," interaction between large and small-scale mining interactions and more. It was also decided to create working groups to which would look into developing standards. The summit was host to industry representatives, mining companies, governments and NGO's.a resolution was passed to create working groups.%%The declaration read: "We believe there is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives and communities of artisanal/small-scale miners and other marginalised workers worldwide, by developing and implementing robust standards for the production of ethical and fair-trade metals, diamonds, gems and jewelry. We also encourage governments, where needed, to develop policies and regulations that protect these miners, workers and their communities."
