The {{Tanzanite Foundation}}, a non-profit industry-supported organization that is dedicated to safeguarding and championing tanzanite, has announced the first '{{Tanzanite Celebration of Life Jewellery Design Awards 2006}}' contest. These prestigious Awards are an opportunity for the world's progressive designers to showcase tanzanite jewellery pieces that have been inspired by the Celebration of Life.
The Awards are divided into five distinct categories:
Independent designer - designers operating under their own name. {[Manufacturer/ jewellery company - larger organizations and manufacturers with numerous designers.][International luxury jewellery brand - established luxury jewellery brands with international presence.] [Fashion house - fashion brands that have or/ are looking to launch a jewellery range. ] [Rising star - talented young designers or students. ]}%% Each entrant is to submit one design, the focus of which must be tanzanite. A panel of judges, that will include influential figures from the worlds of fashion, jewellery, design and media, will select designs to be fabricated into jewellery pieces to be judged on completion. The pieces will be judged on the interpretation of the theme '{{Be Born To Tanzaniteä}}', beauty, practicality and originality. The final collection will consist of 25 pieces of the most inspiring and modern tanzanite jewellery that push technological and design boundaries. The final phase judging will take place in June 2006.
Global Presentation:
A prestigious Awards ceremony will take place in New York City in November, 2006 to honor and celebrate the final chosen designs. This final collection will be showcased at the Awards presentation before embarking on a global exhibition at the some world's most renowned galleries and museums.%% One lucky designer will be taken on a trip to the foothills of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to discover the mystery, history and magic of tanzanite's birthplace.%%{{Sarah Cort}}, Tanzanite Foundation Operations Director comments; "We are thrilled to announce our first global design Awards and look forward to working with progressive designers that are passionate about tanzanite, fusing influences from the worlds of fashion, design and fine jewellery to create unprecedented designs. Designers' interpretations of 'Be Born To Tanzanite' should prove interesting!"
Awards Theme:
Tanzanite, the birthstone, is a gift given on the birth of a child. Fittingly this theme draws on inspiration that we are all born to be something special and experience the thrilling, miracle of birth, the gift of life.%% From the heart of Africa comes a powerful tradition - Maasai women that have had the honor of giving birth to a child, wear blue beads and garb (cloths) to bestow upon the child a healthy and positive life, and to set themselves apart as creators of new life. This traditional custom, protected and preserved by the proud Maasai over generations, is now embodied in the unique color of the mystical gem, tanzanite. Found only at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, tanzanite's kaleidoscope of blue-violet colors draws on the mysterious beauty of its place of origin.
Time Schedule:
{{May 25, 2006}} - All entries to be sent to the Tanzanite Foundation London.$$ {{June, 2006}} - Judging will take place in London.$$ {{October, 2006}} - Final collection to be created.$$ {{November, 2006}} - Prestigious Awards presentation ceremony.
