The International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) dinner held at the BaselWorld 2008, was an open discussion on the forthcoming ICA Congress, ongoing projects and the ICA International Gem Show Dubai. The event called upon an unexpected number of people, attracting twice the number of people, the first time ever in Basel. %% ICA announced the official dates for the Congress to be held in Panyu, China, as May 5 to 9, 2009. The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Panyu Branch (CCPIT) sponsored this section of the event as it made a presentation to ICA members on business opportunities in Panyu. The Chinese delegation included Mr. Li Zhi-Wei, President of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Panyu Branch, Mr. Johnny Chan, Chairman of Worldmart Jewelry & Gems Emporium (HK) Ltd, Mr. Mickey Weinstock, Special Jewelry Advisor to the Panyu Government and Mr. Keane Lau, Secretary General of the Guangzhou Panyu Jewelry Association. %% ICA President Andrew Cody presented highlights of the Congress, saying “I believe we are entering a new era for coloured gemstones, where in the next decade we should see colour move from the support act to center stage” he said in his opening remarks”. CCPIT, along with the Gems & Jewelry Trade Association of China (GAC) and the National Gemstone Testing Centre (NGTC), are the main sponsors of the upcoming Congress in Panyu. %% Cody said the ICA International Gem Show Dubai is scheduled October 13 to 15, 2008, saying “The potential in the Middle East market is huge, and the tax and duty free status for loose stones granted especially for the show along with the Dubai government's backing bring added confidence.” Cody also updated members on the ICA Corporate Profile, a comprehensive document of ICA past achievements, current projects and future goals.
