Werner previously served as the Treasurys Assistant General Counsel for Enforcement and Intelligence and as FinCEN’s Chief of Staff. Werner earned his Juris Doctorate from New York University School of Law, his master’s degree from Columbia University and his bachelor’s from Amherst College, graduating with honors from each institution.
“The Treasury will continue to benefit from Bobs talents and vision, as he takes over FinCENs critical efforts to safeguard the financial sector from illicit activity,” said Snow. “Under Bobs leadership, OFAC has greatly strengthened its relationships with the financial sector and other US Government agencies, as well as with foreign counterparts around the world.” As director of OFAC, Werner oversaw the administration and enforcement of the US governments economic and trade sanctions, based on foreign policy and national security goals.
Robert W. Werner was pronounced the new director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) by the US Treasury Secretary John W. Snow. Werner currently serves as the Director of the Treasurys Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and will replace William Fox, who resigned in January to pursue a career in the private sector.
