Trading in rough diamonds was on a rise in Dubai during the first six months of 2008. Trade increased by 36 percent and amounted to $3.03 billion, as per the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE). %% Dubai increased its imports from Angola by 75 percent and from China by 138 percent in the six months, in turn scaling its overall imports by 23 percent to$1.15 billion. In H1 of 2008, imports amounted to $937 million. %% Exports of roughs saw an overall hike by 44 percent to $1.88 billion, as compared to $1.3 billion, in H1 of 2007. maximum of exports were with countries of the European Commission (EC) and India, amounting to over 87 percent. China increased its imports from Dubai by 950 percent, indicating the increase in domestic demand for diamonds. %% Dubai's surging trade in diamonds was more noted in value owning to a 10 percent increase in prices, although the carat increase has been marginal. Dubai accounted almost 85 percent of total trade volumes with Angola, India, EC and China.
