The Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery Mumbai, (IIGJ) recently set an example of knowledge sharing for the jewellery industry, as it agreed to associate its expertise and skill sets for the Post-Graduate Diploma Course in Jewellery Management to be conducted by the University of Mumbai, from the year 2009. %% The University has invited the Institute to train its students jointly with its Garware Institute of Career Education & Development for the newly introduced course. The Institute was selected basis the quality of its 3-Year Diploma Course in Jewellery design & Manufacture Technology, and the state-of the-art facility of the Institute. IIGJ Diploma in Jewellery Design & Manufacture Technology has already been approved by the All India Council of Technical Education and the Directorate of Technical Education of Maharashtra State. %% On 20 January 2009, Mr. Vasant Mehta-Chairman of IIGJ (Andheri E) Mumbai & GJEPC, along with Smt. Namita Pandya, Convener of IIGJ Tardeo centre, and Col.(Retd) S.K. Arora, Head of IIGJ’s Main Andheri Campus held their formal discussions with Dr. A. D. Sawant Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University and the two entities are soon likely to sign a Memorandum of Understanding. %% In an effort to promote the recognition of the course, Mr. Mehta has approached the Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. A. D. Sawant of Mumbai University on 20 January 2009 to recognise IIGJ(Andheri E) Mumbai’s 3-year Diploma Course of IIGJ (Andheri E) as a Degree B A Jewellery. %% The scope of the IIGJ Diploma Course involves even the entrepreneurs of the jewellery industry, providing training in all aspects of the jewellery industry from ‘concept to marketing’. Enrolment for the Sixth Batch of this Diploma Course has already commenced.
