Regardless of the tough economic status, gold diggers celebrated the festival of Akshay Tritya in India, with enthusiasm. The festival, being an auspicious occasion, is celebrated with gestures of inviting prosperity, one such being indulging in purchase of the yellow metal. This year, jewellers all across India received a positive momentum from consumers after a few months of concern, as noted by the All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF). %% Mr. Dinesh Jain, Chairman: Media & PR, All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation said “The Indian jewellery Industry has witnessed good when the gold price corrected to a level of Rs.14,100 per 10 gms. from an all time high price of Rs.15,800 on February 24, 2009 We are optimistic that this momentum witnessed from mid April will continue through the wedding season”%% According to GJF estimates, sales across the country have increased by 15 percent in value terms as compared to the last Akshaya Tritiya. The price of gold during Akshaya Tritiya was Rs.14,700 per 10 gms, while last year the same was Rs.11,800 per 10 gms. Footfalls across stores have increased by 30 percent; tier-2 and tier-3 cities have seen better growth in sales whereas Metros had a mixed business response.
