Italian university, Politecnico di Milano has introduced an eco-sustainable jewellery design course, which will teach designing specific to social and environment sustainability. The class is slated to begin from March 14 to March 19, 2011 at the university’s POLI. design campus in Milan, delivering theoretical learnings and a hands-on workshop, led by lecturers from the university’s design department and world renowned experts in sustainable jewellery design. %% CIBJO and the World Jewellery Confederation Education Foundation (WJCEF), are co-supporters of the course. Professor Alba Cappellieri, in charge of the curriculum said, "We refer to jewellery that promotes both social and environmental sustainability. That means it complies with the principle that it meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This is prerequisite that we developed together with CIBJO and WJCEF, which are the only bodies in the international jewellery sector to be formally affiliated to the development programme of the United Nations." %% The university requires the applicant to be a first and second level graduate holding a high school-level diploma from an art school or goldsmith institute, as well as professional jewellers. Scholorship grants are also being provided.
