The key discussion at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Thailand’s 39th Gemstone Gathering will focus on the efforts gemological laboratories are making to protect gemstone buyers and sellers. The gathering is slated for October 27th, at Pan Pacific Bangkok Hotel, Bangkok. %% The agenda is planned with an insight into the work of the Laboratory Manual Harmonisation Committee (LMHC) and its dedication to the advancement of information sharing among the world’s leading laboratories. Discussions would touch upon topics - history, formation and goals of LMHC, and present information sheets that explain the nomenclature used in laboratory reports by its worldwide members including GIA, and the efforts of world’s leading gemological laboratories to achieve consistency in reporting language. %% talks would be led by Kenneth Scarratt, managing director of GIA Southeast Asia and director of the GIA Laboratory in Bangkok, and from Dr. Pornsawat Wathanakul, who serves as an academic adviser for The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand and an active long-term member of the LMHC and the CIBJO Colored Stone Steering Committee. %% “GIA commends LMHC on its commitment to build global gemological information sharing in an effort to protect all those who buy or sell gemstones,” Scarratt said. “Our Gemstone Gathering attendees are sure to benefit from Dr. Wathanakul’s expertise on this topic and gain a greater understanding of the work carried out by the LMHC.”
