Two rare diamonds – a 7.53 carat Vivid Orange and a 26.74 carat D Type IIa diamond, both with flawless potential, were discovered by Namakwa Diamonds from its mining operations in the North West Province of South Africa. Namakwa Diamonds is an integrated diamond resource group with mining operations in Lesotho, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Namibia. %% Orange diamonds are known to occur by the presence of nitrogen and carbon lattice. They are exceptionally rare naturally. Straight orange colour with a high intensity grade (Fancy Intense Orange and Fancy Vivid Orange) is extremely rare as most of the orange diamonds have a yellow, pink or brown hue. As such, vivid orange diamonds make an excellent investment piece. %% Commenting on the stones, Namakwa’s Head of Sales & Trading Heno Kruger said: “These two stones highlight the quality of the resource that we are mining on the South East Node in the North West Province. Given the rarity and desirability of Vivid Orange stones of this size, we expect it to be the talk of the town for some time to come.” %% %% Both stones were recovered from operations on the South East Node, which recently completed its ramp-up phase to full production.
