The worrisome issue of $200 million worth of diamond shipment held back at the Zaventem (Brussels International Airport) Airport has been given some respite, as the president of the Commercial Court in Brussels initiated a compromise that has allowed the release of the shipment. The diamonds were being held at a vault at the said airport, after the court suspended the cash in transit license of Brink’s Belgium subsidiary, which is the sole operator of the vault. %% The AWDC, the representing body of the diamond trade in Antwerp has expressed happiness over the release and stated ‘Antwerp World Diamond Centre is pleased with the end to the blocking of the diamonds’. The AWDC was worried over the shipment being held back and its consequences that could cause severe financial consequences" for the local diamond sector and could lead to the ‘entire distribution chain is paralysed, from rough to polished’. %%Post the court’s decision to release the shipment, talks are on between the parties, tom resolve the legal standing of Brink’s new company – Brink’s Diamonds and Jewellery Services’, which the parent company had formed and proposed to transfer its profitable diamond transport division. Brink’s Belgium subsidiary has reported revenues of $32 million and an operating loss of $7 million between January 1– September 30, 2010.
