%% GIA (Gemological Institute of America) has announced Jan Iverson as the Editor-in-Chief of Gems & Gemology (G&G), its award-winning quarterly research journal. G&Gpublishes, in print and online, the latest peer-reviewed research on diamonds and colored stones—where they are found, their special characteristics, simulants and synthetics, treatments, and identification techniques. %% Iverson’s appointment, effective June 1, will lead the collaboration of all units across the organization and drive a practical application of how technology can be used to augment both traditional and new media to better serve the readers of GIA publications.Iverson brings more than 10 years of international publishing and new media experience to her new role. %% Prior to joining GIA, Iverson was with Physicians’ Education Resource (PER) in Dallas, a continuing medical education company, where she successfully managed a portfolio of peer-reviewed print and multimedia products to ensure fail-safe medical education. %% Iverson also worked as editor-in-chief for publishing houses in both London and New York, and headed editorial teams in Europe, the Asia-Pacific and North America. She’s received two UK industry awards for publishing and business development, and been recognized for numerous award-winning campaigns. %% “We are thrilled for Jan to join our team,” said Donna Baker, GIA president and CEO. “Jan’s strong global publication experience and innovative editorial vision will strengthen GIA’s continued initiatives in sharing gemological content to the public through the most robust, accessible and technologically-advanced media channels.” Brendan Laurs who previously served as the interim editor-in-chief has been announced as the G&G editor and technical specialist. %% “It is an absolute honor to join GIA and the Gems & Gemology team,” said Iverson. “As the current media landscape continues to rapidly evolve, I look forward to working with the team to heightening the Institute’s publications international reach to ensure we deliver the most pertinent gemological research to our constituents throughout the globe.” %% Iverson completed her studies in Europe, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in media production, with honors, from the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside, Hull, U.K.
