For the first time in history the International Kimberlite Conference (IKC) took place in India in the city of Bangalore at the Sheraton Hotel from 6th to11th February 2012.%% For the last 40 years this conference has been taking place and has maintained its very high standards of deliberations. It was organized by the {{Geological Society of India}} and was sponsored by {{Rio Tinto, De Beers, BHP Billiton, Australian Scientific Instruments, NGRL India,}} and supported by {{Ministry of Earth Sciences}} and {{Geological Survey of India}}.%% Just like the Kimberlite acts like a courier rock bringing the diamonds to the surface the International Kimberlite Conferences brings together geologists, geoscientists, mining companies, government bodies, diamond industry and academicians on a common platform from different corners of the globe.%% The Chief Guest was {{Mr. S.K. Srivastava}}, Additional Secretary of Mines Government of India and the Guests of Honour were {{Sri G.V. Kongwad}} Secretary, Commerce and Industry Department, Govt. of Karnataka; Director General of Geological Survey of India, {{Sri A. Sunderamoorthy}};{{ Mr. Simon Young}}, Manager, Rio Tinto and {{Sri D.V. Pichamuthu}}, Director, Federation of Mineral Industries. Interestingly the logo of the 10th Kimberlite Conference was the Kohinoor diamond enclosed in the Indian tricolor.%% The function began by paying homage to the late {{Padmashree Dr. Bangalore Radhakrishna}}, a gem of a person who dedicated his life to geology, who passed away just a fortnight before the conference at the age of 94.%% At the inaugural function the Chief Guest Mr. S. K. Srivastava, Add. Secretary of Mines, GOI, New Delhi released the book entitled {{“Diamonds and their Source rocks in India” }}written by Dr. Fareeduddin and Dr. Roger H. Mitchell. Dr. Jayshree Panjikar of PANGEMTECH- Panjikar Gem Research and Tech Institute Pune, India, was invited by Dr. Fareeduddin, IKC convener, to attend the conference and was presented the copy of this book by the authors.%%
