GJF had on 19th March & 29th March filed representations to the Finance Minister & Ministry of Finance and explaining the difficulties that will be faced by the industry and had requested the Finance Minister for a rollback on all 3 accounts.%% The Tax Research Unit of Min of Finance on 30th March 2012 issued a letter from Vivek Johri Jt. Sec (TRU1) to the All India Gems & Jewellery Trade Federation where they have given clear relief to the jewellers on strike who have been informed that the issues raised by GJF in their representation are currently under examination by the Central Board of Excise & Customs which would be clarified shortly. %% In the meanwhile, looking at the fear and hassles faced by the industry, the excise officials shall be instructed not to take any coercive measures to compel any jeweller to register for excise and allow them to peacefully open and start their business without any interference of the excise department.%% This has come as a big relief to the industry as this will allow the Associations across the country to start their businesses after a spell of 15 days of Bandh declared by them and help the waiting consumers to be able to buy their jewellery for their marriages and functions.%% GJF has further recommended all associations to take appropriate decisions with regard to restarting their business after the long spell of the Bandh since the inception of Excise duty. The GJF on behalf of the entire industry shall continue to pursue the rollback demands of the industry with the Govt. of India. %%
