Signature 2013 Show Inaugurated In Mumbai Signature 2013 was today inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the event, Rita Menon, IAS, Chairperson & MD, India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) at Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre (NSE Complex), Mumbai. Present on the occasion were Guest of Honour Stephen Lussier, CEO, Forevermark Diamonds Pvt Ltd, London and Executive Director of External and Corporate Affairs, De Beers and Shri Siddharth, Joint Secretary – Ministry of Commerce & Industry.%% The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has organised the sixth edition of the Signature 2013 Mumbai from February 22 to 25, 2013. Spread over 32,000 sq meters with 1,083 booths, Signature 2013 will see participation from over 550 exhibitors, 5 international pavilions and will receive over 6,000 national and international visitors in the next four days.%% “After a buoyant wedding and the festive season demand for orders to the US have been upbeat despite decrease in the amount of rough imports,” said Vipul Shah, Chairman, GJEPC. “Signature is a great platform where international and national retailers and manufacturers come together to build associations, transact business and forge long-lasting relations that enable business transactions all year around. Hopefully, we will see greater quantum of business being transacted during this edition of IIJS 2013,” he further added.%% He also proclaimed two important jewellery conclaves that will take place in Delhi in 2013. These shows will be in partnership with ITPO. The council and ITPO will host a B2C trade show in Pragati Maidan, Delhi from April 12 to 15, 2013. The council is expecting 300 to 400 stalls to be a part of this show. The Chairman also announced the first edition of India International Jewellery Week (IIJW), which will give spotlight to the North-Indian designers along with designers from other parts of India. This will raise awareness of the prolific jewellery industry amongst the North Indians. Rita Menon said, “We at ITPO are very happy to partner with GJEPC and host the B2C trade fair and the jewellery week. This will help the industry in many ways, as the policy makers in Delhi will have the first look at the potential of this dynamic industry. We are relying on GJEPCs experience and forte and depending on the council for the mobilisation of this show.”%% Shri Siddharth thanked the council for presenting him with the opportunity to be one of the guest of honour for this show. He emphasized the fact that the Indian government gives utmost importance to this sector, as it is one of the highest employment-providing segments and foreign exchange earner. “The gem and jewellery industry employs over 35 lakhs of people and is the second highest foreign exchange earner, it is no surprise then the Honorable Union Cabinet Minister of Commerce and Industry, Anand Sharma, set up a special task group as soon as he learnt of the discomforts of the industry. The special task group has submitted its research to the government within a month and I am hopeful that the government will consider the key recommendations made. I would also like to add that GJEPC is one of the most active and innovative export promotion councils in India and I wish them all the luck for their future endevours,” said Shri Siddharth, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.%% Stephen Lussier shed light on the importance of Indian market for the global diamond giant Forevermark. He said, “India has a new kind of consumer that is young and professional women who are looking for branded diamond jewellery as part of their everyday life. We have recently launched in India but the response we have received is overwhelming making India one of the top five priority market for us. We have revenue of one and a half billion dollars worldwide and India contributes 8 per cent of it. We are hopeful that by next year India will contribute 20 per cent. Over a decade India has emerged as leading consumer of diamond jewellery, outstripping even China.” Speaking about the Signature 2013, he said, “I have had a chance to take a look around and it is a truly magnificent show. I congratulate GJEPC on putting up this spectacular show.”
