Most of the jewellers are delighted as the Indian consumers are positively buying gold just ahead of Diwali on October 23 especially after a dull festive season last year. Sales of gold coins and jewellery have increased in the range of 15 to 25 percent in October till now, which is more than last year. One of the biggest positivity is that gold prices that were around Rs 32,500 per 10 grams during last Diwali were suspended around Rs 27,000 per 10 grams this year. Jewellers throughout India feel that with decline in gold prices in retail, sales would increase this year. Kunjal Karaniya spoke to jewellers and suppliers across India to find out their pre-Diwali expectations. %% Ishu Datwani, Founder, Anmol Jewellers - Though the buying season arrived a bit late this year, it is now gradually picking up & we are looking forward to a fruitful period ahead. We are expecting some good last minute sales this Diwali. %% Amish Kothari – Rosentiques - After months of slowdown, things are finally beginning to look up. All the purchases that people had postponed looks it will be finally being made in near future. Wedding season is also coming, people will start buying. This will lead to improve in demand of jewellery from retailers. %% Rajiv Popley, Director, Popley Group - Sales expected to grow by 20% this Diwali. Focus will remain more on Plain Gold Jewellery thanks to the low gold prices. Light weight jewellery will dominate for more practical reasons & trends will remain contemporary styles. %% Raj Kundra, CEO, Satyug Gold - Gold has always been the prime focus for the festive season and with the festivities being just around the corner purchasing gold during this season is auspicious. We are anticipating good performance on both the jewellery and the coins sale.
