GJEPC welcomed Sean Lin, Vice President – Sales, De Beers Group, to its Mumbai head office on November 27 for discussions focused on reinforcing demand for natural diamond jewellery in China. Lin was received by Kirit Bhansali of GJEPC, Shaunak Parikh, Anoop Mehta, Ashish Borda, and Ajesh Mehta.

The meeting centred on strengthening cooperation between De Beers and GJEPC, with a shared focus on market development and strategic promotional activities. Lin highlighted the ongoing collaborative work with Chow Tai Fook, one of China’s leading jewellery retailers, as an important platform for amplifying the appeal of natural diamonds.

Providing an update on market sentiment, Lin noted that Chinese consumer interest in natural diamonds is gradually improving, supported by early signs of broader economic recovery. He added that lab-grown diamonds in China remain predominantly confined to low-price, accessory-style categories, typically retailing under $ 150 through mass-market channels — helping maintain a clear value distinction between natural and lab-grown offerings.

Discussions also explored potential avenues for closer collaboration, including targeted promotional programmes, retailer engagement and consumer education initiatives to strengthen the long-term equity of the natural diamond category in China.
