Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery Lab Jaipur has expanded origin determination services to include certification for ruby, emerald and sapphire packet lots and bead strings, strengthening traceability and transparency for gemstone trade.
The Jaipur laboratory of the Indian Institute of Gems & Jewellery (IIGJ Lab), an initiative of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, has expanded its origin determination services to include certification for packet lots and bead strings of ruby, emerald and sapphire.
The newly expanded service covers ruby, emerald and blue and pink sapphire submitted in bulk formats such as gemstone packet lots and bead strings. While origin determination for individual gemstones has been available at the lab for several years, the expanded offering now enables traders, manufacturers and exporters to obtain origin reports for larger quantities of gemstones in a single submission.
The origin report issued by the lab includes gemstone identification, disclosure of any treatments and geographic origin determination. According to the organization, the service is designed to provide greater transparency and traceability for coloured gemstone transactions in the international market.
By extending origin determination to bulk gemstone formats, the Jaipur facility aims to support the operational needs of the gemstone trade, where lots and bead strings are commonly traded and exported. The move is also expected to help strengthen confidence in the supply chain by enabling more structured certification for larger volumes of coloured gemstones.
The expanded service further positions the IIGJ Lab Jaipur as a testing and certification centre supporting India’s coloured gemstone sector and the broader global gemstone trade.
